Dubai past: Al Shindaga
Dubai with all advancement and high rise buildings, towers and super highways, but it never forget about the past and still it keep reserve them. There is a place call Heritage Village at Al Shindaga area near the creek in Bur Dubai side, right after Al Shindaga tunnel which connect Bur Dubai and Deira.
Al Shindaga in Arabic: الشندغة, is a place where earlier ruler of Dubai, late Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum lived from 1912 to 1958, so the whole area was his residence located, majlis, local shops and meeting quarters. It is now open to the public as a museum and become a traditional centre at the tip of Dubai creek in the United Arab Emirates. At that time sea water inlet which developed as Dubai creek was only upto knee level, so one can cross from Deira side - Al Shindaga to Bur Dubai without a need of using any mean of sea transport. Like abra nowadays, to cross the creek which is much depeer and is about more than 4km streatch inland.
Heritage village turn into more than historical spot during special events in Dubai, this venue is more active during the Dubai shopping festival, local holidays as such Eid holidays - Islamic, UAE National days and other events.
The above photo is a view from al Shindaga Heritage village. You can view both, the Bur Dubai side on your right with Mosque tower and on your left is Deira side, the white building. In the middle sea water (Dubai Creek) moving further inland. This is interesting part when one visit Al Shindaga, because the Dubai creek is a bend shape near the sea, so this area is one of the bend landmass where you get unique view of both sides of the creek from this location.
Heritage village at Al Shindaga is one of the attraction and tourist spot in Dubai. Sometimes you will find buses are parked outside of the village bringing toruists in group to visit the heritage village. The village is not that very big area, on one side is the port Rashid and main highway that connects to Al Shindaga tunnel. While other side is the creek with nice view of Deira side of the creek.
Inside, there are small pathways between the blocks which build by mud like brick. Visitors have a choice to visit different section inside the village such as Arabic art, Dubai diving village, small local shops or relax in one of the restaurants which offer Arabic persian food and "shisha" for those who like to smoke and just relax.
But mind you these "shisha' have nothing to do with Dubai Culture or past. As business boom around the area, so restaurant owners open them here in the village and bring with whatever current customers likes too.

Heritage village is a perfect location for residence to relax and enjoy fresh air from both sea and creek side. Also there are boats available for rent from Deira Marine tours (Below photo) if one wish to sail in Dubai creek, rental charges is about US$45 - 50 per half hour. Not sure exact but all information can be available right at the dock side of the boat.
